MS 1 During Digitisation

 

Rylands English MS 1, The Siege of Troy is a richly decorated manuscript of John Lydgate’s poem detailing the events of the Trojan War.  The gorgeous and beautifully executed illustrations are contemporaneous, depicting a medieval landscape with the Greek and Trojan warriors portrayed as armoured knights.  Most of the illustrations have been identified as being done by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth century illuminator. The manuscript has now been digitised, and will be available online soon.

Newly Digitised Manuscripts

English Manuscript 50, a late 15th century ‘Pricke of Conscience’ and Manuscript 98, the 15th century; ‘Pseudo-Bonaventura, The Mediation on the Life of Christ’ (pictured) are the latest Rylands Medieval Manuscripts to be digitised, bringing the current total of digitsed manuscripts to 27. They are both currently being cataloged, and will be available online soon.
